Never really ever think of using just one light especially as a hard light source but on this occasion i had thought of this and the look i was going for , so with that in mind i set about making a homemade light modifier. Its simply a piece of card with several slots in. I attached this to the front of a snooted speedlite . I positioned camera right high up pointing down towards my subject, in such a position to cast the shadows on the subject and the background. I was pleased with this result although i would have liked more shadow on the background but its a trial and error thing to get it positioned correctly.
This was another image from the same shoot, in landscape orientation i managed to get the shadows better defined with the subject looking out into the negative space. This image has a different look and feel as it has a high contrast almost film noir look about it.
