Took a trip over to Margate last night as i had a family member displaying his work at a gallery in Margate, not the Turner but the Margate Pie Factory . His work forms part of the East Kent College Art , Media and Photography Exhibition. Its a great little gallery and if you get the chance its well worth a visit to look at the work of future local artists. All their work on display is for sale so you could purchase a piece that has some real value in years to come.
After the Exhibit had finished i made my way back to the harbour area where i had parked my car, grabbed my gear and walked along the harbour area at Margate waiting for the sun to set. Turns out it was not the best sunset !
While walking along the harbour arm towards the seafront i stopped and took the image above, the colour version was a little under whelming, so i over saturated the blue in the sky and converted it to black and white using silver effex pro 2. I made some changes to highlights and shadows and applied a red filter to really bring out the dark sky. A little dodging and burning to produce the shot above.
I just liked the way the warm glow of the setting sun was reflected in this seafood stand along the harbour wall. I walked around to the stairs and tried to frame a shot back across towards the Turner Contemporary but i really was not happy with the composition i was getting and i was regretting the decision to leave my filters at home, really could have done with a ND filter to slow the shutter speed to blur out the water but the image below was the best i could produce without them. Lesson learned !!
