Took a drive out to Scotney Castle today , the weather was dull and overcast and rain was forecast but in a bid not to be beaten decided to still make the effort. The location is a little out the way with no real good way to get here from the Kent coast. The roads through Maidstone and Goudhurst were a little winding at times but we made it in about an hour and forty mins. I packed my tripod in the hope of getting a long exposure , not sure if i would be stopped by the tripod police but i am happy to report nobody mentioned it at all.
After we arrived we were directed to the car park and into the ticket hall where we were relieved of large sums of money in exchange for a paper ticket, not even golden !
This was the first time we have visited so was not sure what to expect, sadly i think we were a week or two early for the full effect of the flowers that would be on display, however the grounds were still very picturesque , despite the gloomy skies. I have seen a few really nice images of the Castle and lake but i have to be honest i really struggled to find a good composition.
Due to the bad light and gloomy skies i think the mono images really worked much better than the colour, i purposely left off the polariser to get the reflections in the lake.
The above image was the long exposure of around sixty seconds, absolutely nothing in the sky but it did manage to smooth out the water pretty well.
