Took a drive down to Romley Marsh today as i have been wanting to find St Thomas Becket Church, Fairfield for a long time. I did my research and found out where and what time the sun would set and even a parking spot. I loaded up the car and set off from home just before 13:00hrs. I new it would take around an hour and fifteen minutes. Sunset was due around 15:54 so i new i would have about an hour and a half of shooting before sunset, taking into account getting my gear ready and walking to the church.
I would not have found this little gem without the aid of my GPS , the montana 650, which is a handheld gps unit that also doubles as a in car sat nav with a dedicated in car mount. This is a fairly new purchase and so far i really like it, especially handy for walking and keeping a track log.
I parked the car and got on my walking boots before grabbing my camera and tripod. I made my way across the road to the public footpath which leads you across the field towards the church. This can be easily seen from the road so you cant really get lost.
If you park in Brack Ln , you can see the footpath dead opposite. There is space for a couple of cars. When i arrived there was nobody else around. I walked to the church which only takes a few minutes and had a walk around trying to find the best vantage point. Thing is it looks great from any aspect.
Sadly the cloud was low and thick and i very quickly realised a decent sunset was out of the question. Due to the time of year it was a little baron and so i decided to shoot with the view to converting to Black and White.I spent probably an hour to an hour and a half photographing this church, but to be honest i was a little disappointed in the results, i blame the weather. Going to have to return at a better time of year.
