Took a drive out to a place called Pineham which is around the Whitfield and Dover area of Kent. I had driven down earlier in the week to find out where the location was and parking , stuff like that so i had a good idea of what to expect. What i did not expect was just how difficult it would be to get a good well balanced composition, it proved really tricky.Read More
I have really been struggling with a slump in my photography, i had no enthusiasm to get out and found it a real struggle. Tonight i decided i had to get out and shoot, i gathered all my gear, jumped in the car and headed out to capture Sunset at Margate, Kent.
I parked a few streets away and walked down to the seafront and thus avoided any car parking chargesRead More

If you are using a satellite navigation system, please use the post code BD23 6EX. This brings you to Bolton Abbey village for access to Priory Church & ruins and walks to the riverside. We recently stayed up in the Yorkshire Dales in a little village called Grassington. On our first full day we decided to go visit the scene from Harry Potter and the deathly hallows at the limestone footpath at the top of Malham Cove. Parking for this is down in Malham itself at the visitor center car park or on the road just outside if you get there early enough. The Parking was £4.50 for over 2 hours and £5 for 24 hours, not sure of the difference !Read More

This year we decided to go somewhere different, we stayed in a little town called Lapad In Dubrovnik Croatia. We stayed at the Hotel Kompas a Four Star Plus hotel right on the beach. I say beach but it was all pebbles. Lapad is relatively quiet resort but it is still in its infancy as far as tourism is concerned, there are many hotels still being built. These hotels are high end four and five star hotels with high quality fixtures and fittings. Dubrovnik Old Town is a short bus ride away some ten to fifteen minutes away and is probably the busiest City i have ever been to. Its popularity has been boosted by the hit HBO series Game of Thrones as much of it was filmed in Dubrovnik as well as a little island , Locrum just off the coast of Dubrovnik.Read More
The above image of the waterfall on Madeira Walk Ramsgate, was taken on a tripod as the exposure time was 120 seconds at Iso 100 F/8.0. I had a Circular Polariser on with a Lee 0.9 soft grad filter and a Lee 10 stop big stopper. This is what created the movement in the clods and the soft falling water.Read More
This years holiday was to Santa Ponsa in Mallorca. This is our fourth time to this resort and the third time staying in the same hotel, the H10 Playas De Mallorca , formerly the Hesperia. The hotel is a basic three star hotel which is conveniently situated on the beach front at Santa Ponsa. The hotel is clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are very basic and to be honest really need some modernisation if they intend to continue attracting repeat visitors. This is not meant to be a review of the hotel , you can find out all you need to know online with a little bit of research.Read More

Over the years you tend to acquire a lot of gear and as a result you need something to carry it around in. I have, as my wife will tell you, tried many different types of bags, from backpacks, messenger bags , pouches, to tactical vests ! I have come to the conclusion that there really is no one bag that will suit every situation.
As i am not as young or fit as i used to be and i am lucky enough to have acquired some good equipment over the years, i have decided to purchase a good quality hard case for my gear. This will serve a couple of different purposes. I chose to go with the Pelican 1510. Pelican is a company with a great reputation for hard cases that they are so confident with, they come with a lifetime warranty.
This case is advertised as being the maximum required size for airport carry on luggage, but i would still check with the carrier before travelling, even if it is within the limits you may find it exceeds the maximum allowed weight ! The case also has a extendable handle at the top with wheels on the bottom to allow you to pull the case along as you would a suitcase. This will make things easier when travelling or when out shooting in many different locations. The case is also waterproof , dust proof and pretty much indestructible . Great for just storing your gear for extended periods in the knowledge its well protected.
This case as with many pelican products, comes in several configurations from the pick and pluck foam to custom made inserts. I went for the padded dividers as you can configure the layout to suit your needs, and if your needs change well , change the layout. This is not possible with the pick and pluck unless you order another set of inserts. I also went with the lid organizer so i can put all the other smaller accessories in the case, such as lens pens, batteries, remotes and all the little bits and pieces we end up just throwing in, just in case !
As you can see from the image above the case is not huge and i was a little disappointing i couldn't fit ALL my gear into it but i have managed to get all the important stuff in. A word of warning that if you have a Canon 5D Mark III with a battery grip it will fit as long as you don't fill up the lid organizer pocket adjacent to it !!
Overall i am very happy with the case as it makes it easier to carry around more equipment in a well protected case and highly recommend it if you are looking for a top quality hard case to protect your gear.
